Realizing the increasing demand of  Mac applications across the web, we thought of coming up with a blog post covering some of the important Mac applications for freelancers.  We are listing here  some really useful and Free Mac applications for freelancers, which can help in managing assignments efficiently.

Text and Image editing applications

TextWrangler- This application is a powerful text editor, and Unix and server administrator’s tool. It allows you to use its text editor for a wide range of tasks including cleaning of data, editing configuration files on your Mac or server, writing HTML, coding etc.

Bean- It is a small and easy-to-use Word Processor, which is  designed to make your writing convenient and efficient. It’s features include a live word count, info panel for in-depth statistics,  zoom-slider, inspector panel with lots of sliders, date-stamped backups, auto saving etc.

Xee - This Mac application is a lightweight, fast and convenient image viewer and browser. As compared to other image viewing tools it uses less memory. It also uses OpenGL to display and scroll images smoothly. It has a highly smooth interface and easily configurable keyboard shortcuts.

Growl- This application is a notification system for Mac OS X, which support Growl to send you notifications. It provides you with new information on the same application you’re already in. You can also receive notifications in your mailbox.

Evernote – It allows you to easily capture, access and search information at any time, from anywhere.  You can organize text notes, pictures, and clippings from other applications.

Quicksilver – This Mac application allows users to use the keyboard for launching applications, manipulating files and data, running scripts, or sending e-mail etc.

Dropbox- Another Mac application to store useful files, and share them with clients. It also allows you to create an additional folder on your Mac, which is automatically kept in sync with a copy in the ‘cloud’.

iStat Pro- This  highly configurable Mac OS X application helps you in monitoring your system. It lets you observe your Mac, including CPU, memory, disks, network, battery, temperatures, fans, load & uptime and processes.

Social networking applications

GarageBuy- This client application is for buying and searching eBay online auctions. It can save your eBay searches, tracks your important auctions and lets you bid on auctions easily.

EventSync- This application allows you to sync your fcebook eents with iCal. It helps you stay updated so that you don’t miss out important events, meeting, or any other information that is posted on Facebook by friends or clients.

Photo Grabbr- This application allows you to download photos and photosets easily from your Flickr Account. It transforms  your sysytem into an easy video photo surveillance system. It allows you to grab a maximum of 320.000 video images up to a resolution of 768×576 pixels from your webcam or TV-capture card, and create a digital photo archive on disk.

MiniTwit- It helps you post updates on twitter easily and instantly. Its simple to use interface allows you to send direct messages to your connections on twitter.

Delibar- It is a simple del.icio.us desktop client for Mac OS X. It collects all your impostant bookmarks in your  system bar enabling you to access them instantly. It includes features like tag and bundle catalogation, sorting entries by alpha or frequency,  exporting in a html page, bookmarks autoreload, proxy support and auto detection.

File Compressor & FTP client

The Unarchiver- This Mac application lets you handle filenames in foreign character sets of other operating systems. It supports variety of file formats such as  Zip, Tar-GZip, Tar-BZip2, Rar, 7-zip, LhA, StuffIt etc.

Cyberduck- This FTP application with a nice and usable interface, integrated with several text editor such as SubEthaEdit and BBEdit. It supports multiple connections inclusing drag and drop feature for transferring files between the server and the client

Classic FTP- This application helps in uploading, downloading, deleting and managing files on a remote server or website using the FTP.  It is specifically designed to give a similar look and feel like a traditional ftp client while supporting the latest FTP features.

Stomp – This application is a video re-compressor that lets you compress a video and make it much smaller on disk. It also enables you to resize the video and scale the video either up or down. You can also add effects to make the video attractive.

7zX – This application allows you to archieve file with high compression ratio. Usually it compresses to 7z format 30-70% better than to zip format, and 2-10% better than most of other zip compatible programs. It supports tar, zip, gzip, bzip2, UNIX compress, 7z, s7z and various kinds of segmented archives.
