Freelancers have a reason to celebrate as they would be having a bright and prosperous future ahead. In our recently conducted survey for Global freelancers we asked our participants as what they are expecting from their freelancing business and from over 800 freelance professionals a whopping 79% of respondents expect their freelance business to increase in 2010 and 59% of those surveyed prefer Freelancing to Full-Time Employment. Only 15% of those surveyed expect it to stay the same whereas 6% feel it would decrease. This clearly states that the freelancing sector will witness a major boom in the coming years.

The global economic downturn could be one of the reasons behind the growing demand of freelancers across the globe. As 18% of respondents are citing the recent loss of a job as their primary reason for freelancing, and another 36% using freelancing as a way to supplement income from a full-time job. Only 29% of respondents considered freelancing to be their primary job or business. The freedom is also one of the reason freelancers choose freelancing for as they work from home and set their own hours along with the ability to control their own destiny while increasing their earnings potential.
Owing to this current financial crisis small and large companies are also looking forward to outsource their important work assignments to freelancers. The main reason they chose Freelancers for Outsourcing, according to the LimeExchange survey respondents, was to “cut costs or reduce staff” (57%).
We hope that the freelancing business continues to grow in the coming years and also open more avenues for everyone to excel in their career path.
